My 55 Gallon Shrimp Aquarium (Update Pics 10/9/2012)
I use prefilters on almost all of my intakes. petco sells one thats made by fluval specifically for the edge tanks, 2.99$ for a lovely little black coarse grade cylinder sponge that slips right over. the trick is to rinse them often.
my fish house: 2.5g- ramshorn hatchery 6g eclipse- yellow shrimp, chili rasboras, yellow apple snails 29g- geo grow-out, angels, 12"fire eel, dwarf frog, apple snails 45g- jade sleeper gobies, native killifish, feeder endlers
75g- 2 oscars, parrot, silver dollars, albino channel cat, syno euptera, bichir, baby jaguar, convicts, yabby 125g- fahaka puffer, rainbow shark
and about a dozen bettas....
Yeah I've got a few of those. I feel that it would be to course to use on the 2217. However I've got some ideas. I may buy one of the eheim prefilters for the 2217 intake. Just depends. We'll see how it goes.
I can't lie that it's gonna be a tough wait today for the shrimp to get here, but I'm hoping it's what helps the wife get into it. A few have asked where my starting colony is coming from and how much? Anybody else reading this don't take offense but Armthehomeless is the shrimp an snail guru on this sight IMO. So contacting him was an absolute no brainer. I simply told Armthehomeless what I was thinking about doing, he gave me options and knowledge about each option. Not quite sure how many will arrive today, but the price is $0.50 per shrimp. Which I'm happy to pay to have a great jump on a starter colony of shrimp from a great source. being that it's the wife's bday today, I promise no pics but I will try.
