Looking to get into photography a little bit more. Wanting something that can capture animals fast and something that does well with portraits. Budget will be around $3K or so. Any ideas are welcome

If you purely want to do photo's (no video) then go with the Nikon. If you want video option to go with Canon. Both make great cameras. You will need to invest in lenses for the speed (low F'stop). I would personally recommencement the Nikon D7000 with the rest of the budget for lenses. If yo want to go crazy you can get the D800 for a killer camera with high performance HD video (the 7000 does HD video too). I am a Nikon guy though, since I have owned over 6.Fishtafarian- Fish are more than just a hobby, they are an obsession.
