D, just let me come over and scape it for you. I've got something in mind.

What are the facts? Again and again and again--what are the facts? Shun wishful thinking, ignore devine revelation, forget what "the stars foretell", avoid opinion, care not what the neighbors think, never mind the unguessable "verdict of history"--what are the facts, and to how many decimal places? #2 only because of the size of your tank perhaps if you can provide us with the dimensions we can get a better idea.
If you are dealing with 7 feet long tank a 3:2 layout will be nice or something more on the 1:1:618 if you want some sort of a mound.

Well a furcifer male creates a holding nest preferably to 60cm in diameter, or about 2ft in diameter. I know in your tank, this will not be a problem, but I have noticed many people have written in #2 as their choice and I dont think even if your tank is 36 deep (which I recall it only to be 30) will not give the guy much space. Being he is going to be wild caught, is going to build up, and if nessesary will build on a plato if possible.

Aren’t these fish the ones who evolve to build their nest above the sand level to avoid the Platythelphusa armata to destroy their nest? The video you were talking about not long ago has something about this.
I think they actually nest on the sediment accumulated on the upper rocks instead, if this is the case it will be really cool to have some sort of a terrace for the dominant male to build it nest and dance for the ladies.

After seeing that video I thought about building a ledge and placing sand on it. But every tank I have seen so for have great success with sand on the bottom. Plus I want have any Platythelphusa armata in the tank )
