  • Alto calvus questions

First off what do I feed them?
I read somewhere they are micro predators and eat small fish or fry.
Because this little guy I got is only an inch big I was wondering what to feed him, if its a him.

Second has anyone seen any or has any that small, wouldn't mind getting another one
For a friend since he is all alone in a ten gallon by himself.

Which leads to my third question what other fish I can keep with him since I hear they are slow growers and all. I want to move him into my future frontosa tank when he gets bigger.

    Thanks in advance

Try starting him on small sinking pellets.

he probably wont eat the pellets, but he will eat frozen baby brine shrimp. I have always fed mine a combo of brine and misis shrimp. The rumor about them growing slow isnt entirely true either. I have 3 of these guys and all of them have at least doubled their size in about 6 months. LOTS OF PROTEIN. I keep mine in my 125g with my Mpimbwe colony and they love it. Dan at HAW has a few really cool Calvus if you wanna get him a friend. Hope this helps.

YEP...HAW has I believe one or two left at the same size yours is. I have also seen them this small at Fish Gallery and Xtreme fish.

I can get 2 - 2.5 inch comps if any one one wants any. Let me know by Thursday of next week so I can bring them on Saturday to Houston

Calvus will eat pellets. Everytime I've kept them they've been fed NLS or the brown 'puppy chow' pellets from Ultimate Fish.

My Comps have had no problems with pellets, they even eat flakes on top.
