  • houdini or dead?

    k. yesterday, i bought a 2in frontosa. really cute little guy, and put him in my 140. monitored him till bed time. he was great, eating, fine, you catch my drift. this morning, turned the tank lights on, and for starters, there were no visible fish whatsoever. i freaked cause there are like 30 fish in there lol. then they all started coming out of hiding. problem is, i can't find the frontosa. did a nitrate check, same as 2 days ago, no change. moved 80 percent of my decor around trying to catch a holding pseudo, caught her, still no front.

it's been 24 hours now, and no sign of him. is he dead? i know they like it dim, but i'm worried, cause he didn't eat (not that i saw) and i haven't seen him anywhere. for him to be gone is kinda odd too, because i haven't lost a single fish in this tank. noone is breeding, and noone has been that aggressive. also, he's not the smallest one in the tank, my yellow lab is, and he's just about 2 inches.

what do you guys think? there are 2 fixtures that fish can swim up into, and he might be in there, but i'm concerned, because thats the only 2places i didn't look, because you can't see in them without removing them from the tank.

If you need to start removing stuff out of the tank until you find him. Check and see if he jumped out of the tank.

Another thing is this. Did you put a front in with a bunch of mbuna's ? If so there is a small but good chance they might have killed him. You need to start removing rock work so you can see if he is in there.. you want to get him out if he/she is dead :(

I would say start taking rockwork out of the tank and see if you can find him/her.. I allow most of my fish a couple of days hiding, but I should see them at least once every 3-4 days..

If there is an opening in the top of the tank, most likely the 2"er jumped out. I lost a pleco that way and found it dried up several months later behind my tank in a very small space. My pleco was about 3" long.

i have more, 3 burundi fry to be exact, but they are like 1 inch. so i'm feeding them 4x dayly and 2x are bloodworms. they are growing, but i'm just too scared to put those tiny fish in a tank with a 6 in red zebra ya know?
