  • Simo diagramma in 75?

Would a 75 be big enough for a group of 10 simo diagramma? I read someplace that they generally like a 6' tank, like 125 or 180?
What's their max size? I can't find any good info on them. The ones I am looking at are about 2-3".
    Thanks.

My book says this on them

Avoid having more than one male in the tank, males 22cm, females 18cm. Basically a 6-8" fish fully grown. I would definately go with a 6ft tank.

If they are fry, your 75 would work to about 3.5-4.5" then your going to need the bigger tank

I've got 6 -2" in a 29 gal but this won't last much longer. I'm thinking about adding them in a 210 with a group of 20 petros.

John -- your Simo's are Simochromis babaulti which only get to be around 4.5" and a 75 would make them happy.. Simochromis diagramma is a whole other animal.. They are WAY aggressive and they grow a lot bigger.. and like Geoff said need space and will kill any other male in the tank if he cannot escape.

Although John's variant is smaller from what I see from watching them is that you can't judge them on their size.

Those guys, to me seem like they could shred each other up and if they do decide to do so it would happen in an instant.

I think the consensus is be prepared for total hell to break loose at any give moment if there is more than one male for certain.

I would get the absolute biggest tank I could for them.

What "if" there was one male, or at least one left with X number of females? I am guessing by their max size, a 75 would be pushing it regardless? I actually half thought about tossing them in and hope for the best!
