  • Stripped 2 wc moba mommas this evening w/pics!!!

I stripped 2 wc moba mommas this evening. One was stripped at day 10 and my wc black moba mommas at day 7. Some of your may remember my black moba momma was egg-bound a while back and very near death. I nursed her back to health and really didn't think she would spawn again.
The last 2 spawns of my wc moba mommas have not been productive. I sold one of my wc males and kept 2. It seems to be working now as you will see by the pics below. I was going to wait til her eggs reached day 10, but there was alot of chasing going on in the tank today so I thought while wait 3 more days.
I caught my wc black moba momma first and she readily opened her mouth for me. She had 36 egg-bound fry in her mouth!!!!! My 2nd wc moba momma yielded 22 egg-bound fry!!!!! I have 2 tumblers running with a total of 58 fry..........WOW!!!!!
Just wanted to share this great news with you and a few pics I took. Enjoy!!!!!!

Double tumblers running......both with double screens.

F1 fry from my wc black moba momma at day 7.

closer shot of same day 7 spawn.

F1 fry from one of my wc moba mommas at day 10.

closer shot of day 10 spawn.
I keep them in their tumblers til their egg sacs are fully absorbed and then transfer them to separate floating nurseries in my 180g tank.

Very cool.... Sometimes I have stripped some of my holding females thinking that they had been holding longer and to find out that its just eggs.. Yours are definitely on their way. Wow... Just so neat to see the head and tail... soon the swim fins.. Awesome!!

I removed my F1 moba fry from the tumbler this week and placed them in 2 separate diy floating nurseries. They are doing well and eating NLS Thera A (.5mm sinking pellets). There are over 50 F1 moba fry from 2 spawns.
Wanted to share some pics of the newbies.

fry from my wc black moba momma. They are a week younger than my other wc moba momma's spawn. You can still see a small portion of the egg sac.

RonR. - what is keeping your floating nurseries floating?
            Scarecrow : I haven't got a brain... only straw.
Dorothy : How can you talk if you haven't got a brain?
Scarecrow: I don't know... But some people without brains do an awful lot of talking... don't they?
Dorothy: Yes, I guess you're right.

The rubbermaid containers float pretty well but to add stability I add 4 clear oval fishing floats to the back end. I bought the floats at Academy. I attach them using fishing line....like the float lines that run across a pool to keep kiddos from going in the deep end of the pool.

To keep the front part stable, I drill a hole in the front and attach another piece of fishing line. At the other end I tie it off to a wooden popsicle stick. This way I can moor my floating nurseries to the front of my tank. I pull the nursery by the popsicle stick to the top corners of my tank, close my glass tops and pull in the fishing line slack.

I don't like my floating nurseries just floating around as they could knock one of my eheim jet pipes out of the back of the tank.
