ok, so this is cataloged as a dumb move on my part...cause i let my girly "aww it's soo cute!!!" run wild this day, but i bought a duboisi fry. little black and white polka dotted doll lol. only to get home, and realize what i had. when i say small...im talking an inch. i was thinking yay! i stumbled upon some really small dwarf designer dooney and bourke fish ha!
joke is on me...as this thing will me morphing into a fish i really wasn't intersted in. not to mention i only have 1.

    any recommendations?

also, is there anything i should know about this fish?

Tropheus Duboisi do much better in groups of 8 or more, but single guys do work out pretty good in a community tanganyikan setup as long as you feed a pellet food like New Life Spectrum or Dainichi. If you feed a flake food, it is best to have one with a high vegtable content like Spirulina based flake, or Aquarian Brand Tropical Flake which has a very high vegtable content.

Keep his water clean and well filtered. The pH needs to stay above 7.5 if possible. If it gets below 7.0 things can deterioate fast and you dont want that.

Be careful Tropheus can be very addicting. You will quickly fall in love with this little guy.

Duboisi are very good beginer/entry level Tropheus because they are so much more robust and into deep generations of tank or pondraised fish.

they really should say something about the protein, because he's in with my fry right now, which get a daily gumdrop of bloodworms. he sure fooled me because he was the first one over there after them! since reading this, i'm switching to pellets. yea, as i'm figuring most tropheus do much better in pods or schools...just dont have the room for him to have 9 friends along lol.

Like I said they are so deep into blood lines now with Duboisi that he will probably be ok with Bloodworms.

BUT,,,seriously you should not feed that to him. Tropheus are very agressive eaters, and in most cases would probably eat Dog Food if you gave it to them. They might not live, but it would'nt keep them from shoving it down their guts.

It is always better to start with a Flake food for a couple weeks, then wein over to pellets in most cases with Trophs. If this guy can handle the blood worms no problem, then going onto pellets should not be a issue either.

Just becareful and dont let him overeat. His color will be off, and he may get sick.

They will eat and eat, you got to have the will power.

yeah, I can pick up from Tim. He will do great with my colony. I will prolly keep him separate until he gets just a bit bigger. thx though.

any time! i know these guys do much better and are happier in colonies. he (assuming its a male) kinda adopted my super red empress fry that i'm growing out (someone got rid of a bunch for a buck a piece about an inch ago lol). he has been sticking with them pretty closely. he might be a touch smaller than the fronts, but the ones I got from tim are about the same size. if you want i can catch and measure him for ya. but it's pretty close.

                              just out of curiosity,

whats the big deal with trophs? not trying to like insite a riot or anything...but just thinking aloud. told my hubby bout this deal and he's like psyched about the front. but i was like trophs have a loyal following.

                              what is it?
