  • Is This Even Possible?

i need to know if this is even possible?
i want to stock my 75g tank with a buch of Different Male Tropheus.
i want like 15 different variants.
i was thinking of just collecting culled males.
is there any chance this will work?
i no male trophs are extremly aggressive to other male trophs, but is there any special way i could arrange the rockwork/scape to where they would be comfortable and coexsist together longterm?

i have a 75g i am gunna run the following
ProClear 125-150 or equivelent wetdry with Mag 7 or equivelent pump.
    Eheim 2217 Canister
    and 2x Koralia 3 powerheads.

as for lighting i was thinking an Oddysea T6 HO 4x 54watt fixture running 2x 6500k and 2x 12k Bulbs

doable......but why not just get a 20 fish colony.

male and female trophs, generally, look a like anyhow.

If you are set....this is what I would do:

Scape it like a normal tropheus tank. Aggression is not as bad as you think. Try to get them the same size. I would aim more for 25-30 to pack them tight, you not worried about breeding anyways. This would make a crazy looking display tank.

      thats what i was thinking!
      would be sick!

i still have to get the equipment, but i have nothing but time.

will the wetdry be able to do the filtration needed for the tank, along with the k3's without the need for a canister?

i am gunna collect the trophs as the become available.

I'll let you know the filter set-up on my tank so you can judge for yourself whether you need more.

        75g

        Filters with media:

        1) wt/dry with bioballs powered by a mag 7: 700gph
        2) 2217 filled with eheim pro: 250gph
        3) pro II filled with eheim pro: 250gph

        power heads just for flow:

        1) K1: 400gph
        2) modded tunze: 1k-1.2k gph

I think what you get right now can handle 20-30 fishes decently. But you got to stay on top them water changes. Once a week at 50% if not two times a week.

          i do 75% wc's every 5 days.

i may get 2x sunsun jvp 102 pumps, they are 1320 gph each.
and i may have a wetdry lined up.
so should i get 2x eheim 2217 canisters?

Why would you want to? Most of the time, trophs in a 4ft tank don't end up well, especially with adults. I only see it as an endless fight amongst each other to gain alpha status. And with males, it's usually a fight to death.

I say ditch the 75 and start saving for a nice colony (40+)

I agree with J, but if a man's got his mind set what's the best thing he can do is his question.

Regarding the 4 footers and keeping trophs...

Look over the link...it can work. The old school guys first started keep trophs in 4 footers and now the trend is to get 6 footers, for good reason I have to admit. But it is doable in a 75g, more so than people generally think.

Well in terms of 'if it can work', then sure. My first colony of Trophs were duboisi's and I kept 11 of them in a 55 and bred them. On the other hand, I had a colony of 18 muragos in a 90 and that did not end well. So, it could go either way. I'm just saying for long term, especially with males, it could get ugly....quick.

you should deffinitely do this. what about return pump?
                  25g - Reef
                  3.5g - Surge Tank
10g - Ichthyophthirius multifilis breeding colony

in all honesty, i am kinda doubting how well this will go:|
i might just get a average sized colony, like 20-30.
i am thinking of growing themout together.
i was thinking like 25 annectens, and a petro trewavasae.
                    what do yall think?

or maybe an established adult colony, like 20+ kachese or something?
                      i REALLY like the kachese!
but the annectens aremy favs! but then again, i dont know if i want to grow them out.
how long does it take on avg doing nothingspecial for 1-2" trophs to reach breeding size?

There are a lot of kachese on the market. Not as rare as I would personal like my fishes to be but they do look nice!

Most females will start to really shake and bake at 8 months. I say it takes a year for a female to really be fully mature to hold to term and all the good stuff.

it will be alittle while before the funds become available

                            I am stoked!
