Expensive Snack

So, this is my first attempt at keeping Tropheus and i'm a little green on the subject but i'm learning. So i have one VERY dominant male who is kicking everyones a$$ in the tank. Today i came home and found the "runt" floating around at the top gasping for breath. He was beat up pretty badly and i thought, i'll put him in my Frontosa tank so he can get better because my Fronts are very calm fish.......

......needless to say, i underestimated my boys. They attacked the tiny Troph and took turns eating pieces of him. I'm not gonna lie, it was kind of awesome to see them being aggressive. I know they are Piscavores but i have little fish in my tank that would fit in their mouths and they NEVER attack them.

So anyway, it was a very expensive snack.

yaeh , alot of times when you throw a new fish in they will see it as food . sucks but that was probably cool to watch.

Well the other issue is that the fish was wounded in the first place.. and well what happens is nature there.. They see a pray and it was over.. Sorry to see it happen. This is why a spare tank is always good to have to see to it that the weak grow bigger and can hold their own again.

I had to put my juvie petros in with my frontosa, nothing happened to them. Must be like Jesper said, wounded fish=food.

Yeah its all that they see a wounded fish and instinct kicks in and says this is an easy target with little fight.

Well hopefully it was a male that got eaten.. but being small usually means female.. which is the wrong direction you wanted to take when keeping trophs.

Do what Fshfrk does.. put a wounded fish in cloth laundry basket and this way the fish can recoup without having to leave the tank.. and its big enough that he/she will not live a cramped lifestyle

Might have to remove the rocks from the tank to keep the tropheus from killing each other.
