  • All Male Calvus/Comps tank okay?!

Im interested in doing an all Altolamprologus display tank in my 210 gallon tang tank. As of now I have 3 Congo inkfin calvus ranging in sizes from 5", 4"+, and 3"+. I am considering placing an order in for 3 large firefin compressiceps from Steve at Valley Aquatics, he's in Tanzania right now and says the comps are in the 5" range. So my question is would this be alright or am I asking for trouble, I would believe the tank is large enough for all of them to cohabit in the same tank. Should I be adding dithers for them to disperse any aggression they may show towards one another, or are there any other methods out there?! Any information would be helpful, thank you.

in my old 65g tang tank - 48x18x18

    i had
1 - Male gold head comp
    1 - Male White Calvus
1 - Male Inkfin Black Calvus
    1 - Male FireFin Comp
and 3 - Juvie Yellow Calvus

i had 3 large piles of lace rock, which formed over 35 inividual caves.
aswell as 6 - 3" Juvie Paracyprichromis Nigrepinnis.

they all were in the 3"tl range.
and they all got along great.
there was almost no aggression between my altos.

    maybe i just got lucky
    who knows.

With the size of tank you have I dont see a problem at all having them together. I dont know about cross breeding, you will have to get that info from someone who keeps them but I think they would look good together

Yes, i was thinking an all male tank but I was interested in breeding them also. Im just not sure if thats possible without them cross breeding. I heard that the males get along fine in a tank until you add in some females then they begin to show aggression for mating purposes. Tator would you happen to have a pic of your old setup to view?!

no, this was before i ever got my digital camera. hence why i gave such a long desriiption, lol

males generally dont show aggression towards one another, espescially in such a large tank as a 210g.
i believe that even with females the aggression in such a large tank would be minimal.
            is this 210g a 7x2x2ft tank?
if so you should be fine.

i would give distinctive territories to each sp of alto you put in.
by distinctive i mean, obviously seperate, territories that each male of each sp can call their own.
this way, the male of each sp. can court their females to their area and more easilly keep them there.

            just a suggestion.
