I raised pelvicachromis pulcher, the common Kribensis, for several years. I can't compare their needs to apistos because I've never kept apistos.
Care for kribs is pretty simple and straightforward. Temp of 78F, simple tapwater, prepared flake and pellet foods with occasional frozen brine shrimp or bloodworms. I kept lots of hiding places in a 55 gal community tank and a single pair of Kribs. I also raised them in smaller 20L planted tanks. For spawning I kept very small flowerpots in the tank in which the female layed her eggs. After the male fertilized the eggs, both guarded them, though some males weren't as good at this as others. Females were always good parents, and guarded the free-swimming fry until the next spawn. The old fry are chased off when she gets ready to spawn again.
Fry were fed crushed flake.
Kribs are a smallish fish with lots of personality, easy to keep and breed.
MarkWhat are the facts? Again and again and again--what are the facts? Shun wishful thinking, ignore devine revelation, forget what "the stars foretell", avoid opinion, care not what the neighbors think, never mind the unguessable "verdict of history"--what are the facts, and to how many decimal places? You pilot always into an unknown future; facts are your only clue.
