  • flow in my troph tank

i need to know which one of these sets of ph's is best both now and longterm for the trophs im hopefully getting.

    i have a standard 75g 48x18x20
    i am currently running a 2217 eheim, and a 300gph powerhead.
i have a second 2217 in the works.
    lighting is a Coralife lunar aqualight with 4x 65watt pc 2x 10k, 2x actinic.
    and 3x 1watt leds.

i am wanting to get 2x koralia powerheads.

i was going to get 2x k2's and use those for longterm.
i will more then likely be gettign fry from geoff tropheus.

but then jim ssrprelude stated 2x k4's would be better.

which combintion of 2x koralia's would be best both for the trophs now as fry, to longterm adulthood in this tank?

if you can get the k4's,thats what you should get.
i use a mag 750 hooked up to a sponge filter in my troph/petro tanks.
as long as your not splashing water on the floor, you cant really have to much flow!
    petro crazy!!!

for fry a little less flow would be more ideal . but when they grow up , in a 4ft tank i would go with 2 k3's.
        25g - Reef
        3.5g - Surge Tank
10g - Ichthyophthirius multifilis breeding colony

          what do you mean?
          what else would i use?
i thought trophs needed high flow to help keep aggro down, aswell as make them feel more at home?

Brian, use the tide pool filter that you have with a mag5 or mag7.5, 1 koralia3, 1 EX-350 and the 2217. That tidepool filter is rated for a 125G tank and really works very well.

i would love to use the tidepool, but i need to know what type/ how large of an overflow box to go with, and need to find a mag 7, aswell as get the return hose, directional u-tube, and flex drain hose.

Where you find it for $325? That's a great price.

One fills a 4ft tank very well.

Or add more flow via filtration (ie wet/dry)

You need a 600gph overflow. Cheaper than a mag you can go with a QuietOne pump.

Mike is right, you don't need PHs at all. Prior to the vortech, I had an eheim 2028 and wet/dry with mag 12. I was very successful with this setup. I use a wavysea in order to create a multidirectional flow.

I added the Vortech primarily for emergency purposes, especially with the battery backup ability and the low profile in the tank.
