  • Looking for a Couple of Cyps

I'm looking for a couple of cyps around 3"-4" to add to my 180g wc moba tank to test things out. I want to get 12-24 of the rarer cyps. I want to try keeping cyps and my mobas together. Some folks have successful kept fronts and cyps together. My mobas are big, but I keep them well fed. I've kept bristlenose plecos (both dark and albinos), african leopard eels and even 2.25" F1 moba juvies in with my colony without a problem.

I know that cyps are a natural food for fronts and maybe the shape and coloring of the cyps is what attracts them....not sure, but I don't want to purchase the rarer cyps and have them become some expensive feeders.

Does anyone know where I can get a couple of cyps?

are you looking for fish food?ps just finished the reading the thread...i guess you can try it but i would be willing to bet that you wont have any cyps in a few days..you might just want to take the cash your going to spend and put it behind your tank stand...because unless you have all closed off and no holes or gapes your cyps will be there from being chased or they will end up in the fronts guts....

Thanks for the advice. Here are quotes from folks that have kept fronts and cyps together....

"i have kept cyps with my moba group and they did not mess with them. i do keep them well fed and they are large and lazy as i am sure yours are ha ha. all cyps i have kept are all top water fish. they will school at the top and the males will claim 3 dimensional territories in the upper water column".

"No problems with the Frontosa eating the cyps...the Bulu Points were in there since they were 2" long...now they are 3.5"...I had a couple of cycling fish in there that were 1-1.5" that I thought were going to get eaten...nah, it didn't happen...these guys are spoiled with Krill, bloodworms and brine....and NLS!"

"I know a guy that keeps a few Cyps. with a group of Moba Fronts. The Mobas are large enough to breed and don't bother the Cyps."

And a vid with the 2 together from someone that has actually done this:

I'll leave the cyps in my 180g for a couple of weeks and if nothing happens then I'll add some more. If I do lose a couple than at least I can say I tried it. I've spent $$$ and lost it before.

Does anyone know where I can get a couple of cyps in Houston???

GO FOR IT!!! People say you can't keep certain fish together, but if you do it right anything is possible.

I think I saw some over at Xtreme not too long ago.

Try it Ron and post the vids!

I kept giant danios with my Mobas back then and it worked out great so I changed it to Opthalmotilapias..... those didn't last too long and were picked off one by one.

Ek, thanks for the info bro. Do you know where I can get a couple of cyps? I saw 1 or 2 about 2-3 mos ago at Fish Gallery.

Other than Xtreme do you know of any other lfs or fishkeepers?

              Scarecrow : I haven't got a brain... only straw.
Dorothy : How can you talk if you haven't got a brain?
Scarecrow: I don't know... But some people without brains do an awful lot of talking... don't they?
Dorothy: Yes, I guess you're right.
