If you really like the puffer then you paid what you thought it was worth to you, so i dont think you should think you got ripped off.
This little guy has such a fantastic personality that it was worth every penny. On the other hand, if I walk into a LFS and they have a very healthy and happy 6 inch puffer for $150, than I will admit that I was ripped off. But in the grand scheme of things it really does not matter, life is to short to sit around and try to figure out if you got ripped off or not. With my experience at this store I would not be surprised if I did get ripped off.

This one is about 4" and it is pushy. So is it worth keeping or should I trade him out before I get attached. What breed of cat is prefferd?

3 to 4 weeks for the puffer 2 days before the 4 starter fish that I used to cycle the tank.

so far i havent seen any problems nor has my friends told me of any problems with their giraffe. they have them with shell dwellers that are no more than 2" big and their giraffes are from 5"-7".

i think you should be fine but if you do decide to replace him i think syno. petricolas are a good mix cause they dont get big so they cant be too pushy.

I will keep this in mind, he does seem to do a good job though. Do you think he will get enough to eat with just 3 fish not counting him.

what are you feeding them now?

personally i would get som NewLifeSpectrum pellets either thera+a or cichlid formula since they are sinking and the giraffe will find it to eat. another good food food is hikari sinking carnivore bits.

You might want to check how big the cat gets, if your ok with giving him up when he outgrows your tank then you should keep him. Or you can buy a bigger tank in a year or so.

Heres a picture i found on the net.

But they told me the fish only got as big as the tank would allow 8O . In a couple of years I will have a catfish fry and your all invited

they are right, the fish like anything else will only get as big as the tank will allow.

That is both true and false. While some fish will only grow to their environment, there are MANY fish that will continue to grow no matter how small or large their tanks are. Giraffe cat is a perfect example of a fish that will grow no matter how large or small its tank is. So prepare for an upgrade in a yr or so. To curb its growth, dont over feed it to where it has a round belly. Feed it to where it its belly remains flat, not too fat or not too skinny.

Upgrade, yeah, I am going to have to do this because I have the wrong tank for the puffer...I can say when it comes time to buy a new tank, well... I know of at least one place where I will not shop for it. Anyone care to guess where that might be.
