  • New to Africans

I was going to sell my 29 gal tank but then i realized that instead of selling it i can get rid of the fish i have in there now, and try africans (which ive been wanting todo for awhile now.) but i know next to nothing about them except that therye aggresive and from africa. so i was looking at a few fish that i thought looked really nice and were intersting so can you guys give me some suggestions on what would do ok in a 29 gal.

These are the ones ive been looking at so far
    Neolamprologus caudopunctatus
    Neolamprologus leleupi Firecracker Orange
    Cyprichromis Leptosoma "Blue Orchid"
    Cyprichromis leptosoma "Utinta"

    Thanks

    And it begins...

Maybe a pair of Calvus? It seems that a 29 gallon is a little small for most african cichlids...

Any of the Neolamprologus will be fine. For example in that 29, you can have 4 or 5 of any of the brichardi complex. They will live and breed and be ok. Just put teo inches of PFS and then on one side a barnacle cluster or piece of holey rock, and on the other put a pile of shells. leave the middle open.

So would the Cyprichromis be out of the question?

I do not know much about cyprichromis. It is not a fish I have kept. I will tell you. I now keep some Lake Victorian cichlids. You should look them up. I have pundamilia nyererei. I am waiting on some haplochromis "ruby green". Both of which can be kept in 29g. I only know three people who keeps these, they are beautiful fish.

Yes. Paracyps could work, though. A small school of Paracyps, a few shell dwellers, and a pair of Caudiopunks would be good. You'd have action all over the place.

How many Paracyps could i keep if i did a species tank?

I think im leaning more towards Paracyprichromis Nigripinnis, and Lamprologus Ocellatus.
