As Geoff mentioned... sometimes it takes a while for cichlids to get acclimated. My dovii tht I got at the auction are still skittish too. I'm pretty certain that they aren't "chicken fish" either.

...although I do like the name....
    Scarecrow : I haven't got a brain... only straw.
Dorothy : How can you talk if you haven't got a brain?
Scarecrow: I don't know... But some people without brains do an awful lot of talking... don't they?
Dorothy: Yes, I guess you're right.

He still acts like a chicken..I sit at the tank an laugh...he finds a hidey hole, then here comes a guppy or a cory in the hole...and away he goes, to find another hiding place.

Shortly after joining this forum I split my fish up. After a year of trying to kill each other, I now have two seperate groups of total chickens. I have to sneak up on them to feed them. BUT, after the lights go out, you can hear them knocking stuff about, splashing, and generally being their old selves. I guess you never know.

UPDATE.....7days now. And we have PROGRESS!

          He actually kinda chased something

          He claimed a small, and when I say small, I mean a 3in x 4in area under
a rock, dug some sand out from it to make it deep enough to hide under...kinda sad actually..hiding under a rock from the vicious guppies.

Anyways, I was watching, hoping I might see him be something other then a Big Blue Chicken Fish....and low and behold he chased something!......A little 2 inch Calico Bristlenose pleco that was moving in on "his" cave. I say chased, cause he made a move towards it, like he might actually have grown a pair....the pleco moved before any contact was made. So maybe he is starting to grow-up....? Still though, a cory cat or a guppy can swim close to him, and he bails for the nearest hidey hole. But at least we have SOME progress.

Good! He's getting used to the place, and now that he has a territory, he'll probably feel much more comfortable. :)

He is officially a chicken. No guppies harmed yet. Hubby has grown fond of him, so now I am not sure what to do with him....can't rehome him, cause hubby likes him, but need something that will go with him to eat culls. Any tank mate Ideas?

                  hmmmm.... maybe a bichir?
like a dino bichir, polyterus senigalis.

they eat live food like its going out of style.
and alot of bichirs come from the rift lakes.
he wont get bigger than maybe 10"int hat size tank.

                      nice pick!
they require soley live food, so they would enjoy the culls.

aswell as be a conversation piece in her tank

Update on Mr. Big Blue Chicken......well, I do believe that he has been in his tank long enough!
The "culls" I had been putting in his tank, for him to eat, ya know the ones he was running from...mean vicious guppies ya know, have now started BREEDING! Ya, big blue chicken is yet to eat guppies, but he sure knows how to guard his corner from the big mean pleco. *sigh* So, away he goes...got a friend with a 55 with a few labs and some other in it...going to give him away to him. Maybe I should have gotten a leaf fish
