not sure. i dont keep any africans so i dont know how aggressive they are. i guess you ould go with any peacock. i think the sunshine and german reds are really nice but can be pricey. you could also look for a female ahli.
Oh no...no females...with my water, everything breeds...I would be up to my ears in cichlids in no time....And would have no idea where to go with them.
I never saw the fish you won at the Auction, so I just assumned it was Johanni

Ide throw in some electric yellows, red zebras or things of that nature. Or just make an all male peacock tank(peacock are super easy to sex... males are colorful females are not). Male peacock tanks tank to be very pretty.
K, so if I go to one of my LFS's, and tell them I have a blue Ahli...and I need malawi tank mates...they should know what direction to point me in...and just for me to make sure they are peacocks? Are there other kinds of malawiis?
If you say peacocks I am sure they will know what you want. But you could just say you want to find tankmates for a 50g for the fish you already have. In reality just about any malawi fish will be fine with what you currently have, but it is going to depend more on the tank size you have instead.
Its a 50 gal, I thought about putting him in a 30 to himself if he don't grow a pair soon. I know this is prolly too small of a tank, but for one fish...I firgured it to be enough room, especially with a 20-40 and a 5-15 HOB....which is the tank he will go in if he don't start doing his job in a week.
Next question...what is the price range of these fish typically? I am not wanting to go buy some rare expesive one...just one that will get along with chicken, help him to eat culls, and maybe some good color, along with the tank being of appropriat size for 2-3 fishes
really depends on what you are looking for and where you are going to buy.
On craigslist or here im sure you could get 2-3 fish for anywhere from free to under 15$, At a fish store you will probably spend min. $15 fr three fish, and lot more depending on the fish and size.
I dont know how you feel about petco, but i think saw some smaller sized mixed africans on sale for 3.99 each.
Ide try asking on here... im sure someone will have somethng you like that they could give you or trade for(just dont know about the drive you may have to make to pickup).
Another cheaper alternative would perhaps be some male or female convicts(not both becuase you would have millions in a month).
