What fish can I put with a dozen Electric Yellow Labs?

I had a lot of trouble finding the Tanganyikan fish I wanted so I ended up getting a bunch of Electric Yellow Labs (Labidochromis caeruleus). I adore them! They are so colorful and lively without being overly aggressive.

Now I'd like to put more fish in with them. What does everyone suggest? This is for my 90g tank (my journal is in my sig line).

Here's what I have in the tank right now:

12 Electric Yellows (Labidochromis caeruleus)
3 Bristlenose plecos
1 Eartheater (Geophagus brachybranchus)
1 Yellow Leleupi (Neolamprologus leleupi)
2 Paracyps (Paracyprichromis nigripinnis) <-- I don't expect them to survive, unfortunately
7 Petricola cats (Synodontis petricola "Dwarf")

So what fish can I add to my tank? I'm looking for color, especially blue. I don't care if they breed. I mostly want a tank full of pretty fish to enjoy.

If it's possible to find the right mix of fish, I'd love to have about a dozen blue fish to go with the electric yellows and then a bunch of other fish of all kinds for added interest. Any suggestions?

Here's the fish recommended in the article.

Haplochromines (i.e. Nimbocromis livingstoni)
Peacocks (i.e. Aulonocara and Trematocranus)
Utaka (i.e. Protomelas, Copadichromis and others)
Chisawasawa (i.e. Cyrtocara moorii aka Haplochromis moorii) <-- gorgeous blue!
Piscivoures (i.e. "electric blue hap", Sciaenochromis fryeri)
Mbuna (i.e. Labidochromis) <-- that's what I have now

It's going to take me some time to look up all these fish, figure out which ones I might like, and then figure out if I can even get them. If anyone has any suggestions on fish I should look into first or skip completely, let me know.

Yellow labs are from Lake Malawi, and as I have advocated before mixing fish from different locations, can be a cause of several problems of their own :(

I'd be careful with the Electric Yellows, and I'd probably trade them in on some regular Yellows just to be safe. If they get scared and release any of their electricity they can wipe out an entire tank full of fish. True story......

I fully agree. What I have now is a mix mostly because I have been unable to find what I want(ed). The day I got the electric yellows was when I finally decided that was it on trying to get tang fish. I had no idea it would be so hard to find them when I started out.

So now I'm going to see if I can have better luck with Malawi cichlids. If nothing else, at least I'm loving the electric yellows I have now. The tank has color and movement finally, and there's no real aggression with them.

The one listed as "Blue and Yellow Mbuna Setup" might work for me. It gives me the blue fish I wanted, and the setup includes 10 electric yellows which closely matches the 12 I already have. Plus, I think the Metriaclima callainos are incredibly beautiful!

Please for the love of God dont do Frontosas. I'm not an expert on the fish and probably never will be, but in my experience and Dan's, the yellow labs will bully the Frontosas. They wont breed, they will hide and they wont flaunt their colors as vibrantly as they should. If you HAVE to keep the yellow labs, i'd do Peacocks.
(and you'll have to change the name to "90g Mixed African Tank"...or i'll harrass you all the time. LOL)
Just curious, what Tanganyikan fish were you looking for that you couldnt find?

If you still have the desire for a Tanganyika tank try Dave's Rare Aquarium Fish in San Antonio. He has an impressive stock list and being in Texas overnight shipping is cheap and the fish will be boxed for less than 24 hours.

However if you are intent on a Malawi tank I would suggest Psuedotropheus Demasoni. The electric blue will contrast well with Yellow labs. Maingano will offer a similar contrast and has the same electric blue but in smaller amounts.

IMO a 90 is way too small for Fronts.

Electric Blue's are fish that will get some size on them... and they can be quite aggressive. I would not have more than a pair of males MAX in a 90 and that might be pushing it. Females will have little to no blue in them at all.. so you are getting 1 blue fish. Your question about the cobalt blue and others they will work together.. again the cobaly blue is a larger fish.. you might not be able to get as many as you can yellow labs...
This is why I choose smaller fish which work well with yellow labs and dont get huge like some of the other fish you have listed.
