Yah read on it so more before you try, there not like SA cichlids. These guys require alot of attention and patience. If you dont do it right you will loose alot of money.
Good filteration, good flow, weekly water changes, good diet meaning more veggies food, and the list keeps going. GOOD LUCK!

Kiriza is a narrow band that is yellow and has some orange in it. Kiriza stripe does go belly to dorsal tip

Ikola is pure yellow and wide band. I have seen some Ikola where it does get into the dorsal some, but not much.

Bemab is mostly red with some yellow and has a wide band.

55 is a fine size, cheap trophs can be found. have good filtration and an even better rockscape to control territories. you dont need a large tank like everyone fights over...i have 19 trophs in a 40g and 8 are adults, no agression and they even breed ALL THE TIME. dont let people get you down bro. do what you want and as long as you take very good care of them and can control the aggression then no one can tell you otherwise. AS far as difficulty of care....tropheus are NOTTTTTTTT hard to take care of at all. My geophagus require WAYYY more attention than my tropheus do. just get good food, do weekly water changes and your fish will be as happy as mine and everyone else who keeps trophs....so basically what im saying, and ill probably get shot for it but it really is the truth unlike what everything thinks, TROPHEUS ARE NO HARDER TO CARE FOR AS ANY OTHER FISH for the most part.

absolutely not true...but feel free to do things your way. like mark said...nobody can stop you from keeping your fish however you want. As a suggestion...I would listen to those who have kept these fish for a very long time. I have followed their words and am proud to say I have produced fry from every varient I have kept. good luck in getting involved with these fish if you think these are the fish for you.

there are VERYYYY knowledgable people on here about tropheus and unarguably way more knowladgable than me. Im not at all saying that they arent, considering gotticigs smart a** comment. However this knowledge seems to go to these peoples heads and then they seem to have their own little exagggerated "commandments" to keeping tropheus. Tank size is arguable and i agree it is not ideal to keep them in less than a four foot tank. However, im tired of everyone acting like trophs are the holy covinent of fish. They are AMAZING fish and i LOVE my trophs but they are not some unicorn of a fish that is difficult to take care of. dont let people scare you out of getting trophs. they are EASY to take care of. i dont care if people dont like me on this site because i have my own opinions that dont follow the cult. If anyone is offended by me, all i have to say is why? why do you care so much about what i say? i do find it humourous how some of the troph keepers are ridiculously desperate to seek approval from the vets such as fshfrk and geoff. undoubtedly these two guys amoung many other know what they are doing and john has been MORE THAN HELPFUL to me in more ways than one.

Bottom line....in my opinion and personal experience (which is not long with trophs)

if youre using a smaller than suggested tank, have a very good rockscape

                          Good filtration

                          good food

                          and thats it.

trophs are vulnerable to some things that can cause them harm but so is every other fish, as long as you closely regulate feeding and water maitenence then you should never have a problem. i say go for it bro, trophs are AWESOME and you shouldnt be scared out of doing it by the elitists.

and as much offense takin by the word "elitist" is jsutified by some of the members actions. There is a difference between an expert and an elitist, no doubt geoff is an expert when it comes to tropheus and knows a TON. thats not what im getting at by using the word elitist. what and who im refferring to are the people who act like they need to give approval to those wanting to keep tropheus like its some sort of "gift of the gods". All i have to say, if anyone who reads this post is offended by my use of the word elitist, thats because you are one and you need to get over yourself. ITS A FISHHHH. If you are an expert of the topic of tropheus then you should understand where i am coming from and feel no offense because im not reffering to you.

Spoken like someone who hasn't gone through Bloat....yet. :)

There isn't a single person on HFB who is "right" about anything. We can only share the personal experiences we have had. There was a time when I was like, "Pffft...this isn't hard! What's the big deal?" And then for some reason (I have never figured out what caused it), Trophs in one specific tank just started dropping off. I lost about 10 fish. I buy quality fish, feed them the right type of food (tropheus have a longer digestive tract than other fish, so you shouldn't feed them anything that isn't easy to digest), have proper filtration, and stay on top of maintenance...and it still happened to me.

I think that all of us 'elitists' are just saying that we've had years of experience with these fish and there are just a few things that you can do that will help you be successful with them. Are they hard and fast rules? No. And no one here is going to try and scare you away from Trophs. We LOVE adding more troph addicts to the group! We just want to make sure that you have all the information you asked for so you can make educated decisions.
