  • Pin the name on the Hap

I got this guy from a LFS about 3 or 4 months ago, and at the time he was pretty dull.  In the months since He has gotten the golden color he is now, and about a week ago I noticed bright red areas developing around his head (not pictured).  The markings on this fish are nearly identical to my Red Empress females, but the coloring....  Any ideas?

Anyway, I'll try to get a picture with the recent coloration later tonight.

I'm also prepared to say "duh" when someone knows exactly what this is. haha.

Looks like a victorian hap to me.  I don't know which one, but you could probably research it at cichlid forum.com under profiles.

Hm, well I may have been mistaken calling this fish a "He".  Looks like a female Paralabidochromis sp. Rock Kribensis.

      Duh. Okay, I'm convinced.

It does look somewhat like a Krib.

I bought the fish at Maraist's in Nederland.  They regularly have some unusual/mystery fish.  The owner breeds his own Peacocks, etc. in the back room.

I actually live in Bridge City, but Beaumont is much easier to explain to people.

I have shopped at Maraist plenty of times.  My dad and I used to shop at his dad's house when they ran it out of his garage.  One of the reasons I stopped going there is because of the unusual/mystery fish.  I prefer to know what I'm getting, and I also expect the seller to know exactly what he has and how to care for it.

If you ever need any help with anything, shoot me a PM.
