  • Up and down, up and down, up and down

Today, I introduced a few labs into my tank for starters. Tonight, they are still running their noses up and down the glass of the tank. Only the littlest one is actually doing what I'd expect from a cichlid. He is the only one who is digging and setting up territory! EVERYONE else is just going up and down! Please tell me if this is normal!

I have an electric yellow that has been in the tank the longest and he does the weirdest stuff. He swims as fast as he can from end to end, top to bottom, the same pattern over and over. This can go on for 30 minutes or more, then he will just swim normal. Not all there I guess...

The only time I've ever seen fish do this is when they are hungry. This might be a dumb thought but they might need more oxygen....

Well, I wouldn't be surprised if oxygen is the answer. I came home and my filter got unplugged by my goliath of a cat. (Maine Coon) I let it run for as long as possible while floating them but I didn't want them to suffocate in their bag.

Yeah, I put them in there about three or four hours ago and they are doing nothing but up and down... it's kind of annoying.

Scarecrow: I don't know... But some people without brains do an awful lot of talking... don't they?

If oxygen were the problem, they would be up at the surface gasping for air.

Like my sister's gold fish! Yeah, her tank went white annd two gold fish went belly up, her glo fish seem fine... Just the whoel thing crashed... Her pleco took a suicide jump.

But, I have plenty of room for them to run around and build barriers and territory, lots of visual barriers and things like that. It's your perfect starter's mbuna tank.

Sorry to change the course of this discussion, but what do you mean by "her tank went white?" Just curious. Sorry about her pleco, though, that stinks. :(

Only the yellow lab does it in my tank. I don't think it's oxygen related in my case. I think he is just nuttier than squirrel ****.

Oh, it's fine. Her tank suddenly looked like she'd dumped a whole cup of milk in it. I had just done a water change and the nitrites and nitrates and pH were all perfectly fine. I made sure nothing got in the water but plants, fish and bacteria suppliment. It was only a 50% water change, too. Why?
