  • Teacher needs a location to hunt/collect TX Holey Rock for classroom aquarium.

Hi all, this is my first post to the forum. I teach 8th grade science at Cuero Jr. High (80 miles SE of San Antonio). I recently was awarded an education grant $3500 to purchase a 350 gallon aquarium setup for our science department. I plan to stock it with African Cichlids. Our classroom budget isn't big enough to purchase TX Holey Rock for the tank but I'd like to find someone gracious/kind/wonderful enough to direct me to a person or place where I could hunt/collect the rock myself for our aquarium. I would only use the rock for our classroom aquarium - I am not trying to profit from someone's gernerosity in any way. Thanks so much for any help or information.

    How neat! Congrats!

I'm sure that if you are ever in the Houston area many people could donate some rocks for your project. Otherwise, I'll wait for people more "in-the-know" to post about where you can obtain some. :)

    Good luck!

Texas holey rock is protected in the Edwards Aquifer zone and it is illegal to collect it.

I would contact a rock yard or LFS in your area to see what can be worked out.

There are several landscaping supply yards in the Austin area that sell large pieces of holey rock. It might be worth a day trip to check a few out. Sorry, don't know the names of any offhand, but I always see some when I go visit my sister in Roundrock.

What are the facts? Again and again and again--what are the facts? Shun wishful thinking, ignore devine revelation, forget what "the stars foretell", avoid opinion, care not what the neighbors think, never mind the unguessable "verdict of history"--what are the facts, and to how many decimal places? You pilot always into an unknown future; facts are your only clue.
