that tank also hadent had a wc in almost a week, abd it has driftwood that to this day leaks quite a bit of tnnins in the water, how can you compare that tank with my simo tank which has no droftwood and only rocks which would raise not lower the ph.?
espescially when you never took a reading of that tank.

      • ok, i just got to thinking....
you know how when you have sand that isnt being turned you get those bubbles that come out when you turn over the sand???

well, i havent turned the sand since it was setup about 3+weeks ago, and when i put that powerhead on there, it blasted the sand around down to the glass, could it have released those little bubbes that i have heard can be toxic to fish and that might be what killed them???

just throwing that possibilty out there.

cvause when i turned the ph on, and it started messing the sand up, i kinda smelt a funny odor, not strong, just faint, but it was the same smell i have smelt when turning sand and releasing those bubbles in my old 75g mbuna tank.

could this have caused their demise?

        • yo brian, you just told me over the phone you changed the water 3 times this week, then on this thread you say you didnt all week. My doubt in what you say on the forum is because you KNOW you lie all the time about ****. it could still be from an ammonia spike which is probably what it is. either way its your fault. ill teach you how to keep fish when i come over today

I dont get it, i i rinsed the rocks in super hot water, so hot i had to use kitchen gloves, then i rinsed them in cool water.
Removed the old rocks and plants and put the new rocks in.

the water was cloudy, so i did a 75% wc.

Then i rinsed the ph for a few minutes in warm water, ran it in a bucket to make sure it worked properly, and added it to the tank, kicked it on adjusted the output, and they were happy, as seen in the video.

I fed them after the video, and all ate very well as per usual.

Then i left came home 5 hours later, and all were still happy, the lights were out and they were drifting and sleeping in the current, and then i wake up to the sight of all dead simos with a couple floating and breathing heavy on the substrate, that died a few minutes after.

              I dont understand wth happened.

              there it is big girl.

So what were you saying about stating i said i hadnt done a wc????

That's Hydrogen sulfide. It takes quite a while to form, and I'd think the tank has to be pretty dirty or full of fish to form that quickly in large enough amounts to actually do noticeable damage, let alone kill everything. It smells like rotten eggs.

It's easily remedied, though, by water (surface) agitation, movement, and aeration. So since you had just put in that powerhead that moved a ton of water, I wouldn't suspect H2S had anything to do with the deaths.
