        back to topic.
since we ruled out marks idea of paint or pesticides, i say its ammonia or nitrate poisoning.

well, i know that 10g is not cycled. it was not cycled when he first put in the fish. Brian, i think that was the problem. 13 fish in a 10g. how often were you honestly changing the water? i know the 11 geos i have in my 40g makes the nitrates go CRAZY after a week so im pretty sure thats what happened. infact, i know that was it.

Stress from too much current? Do simos have any particular kryptonite? For example, like copper based meds to invertebrates and scaleless fish.

yo brian, just watched your video again. You probably displaced almost 4 gallons with those rocks, meaning that you had 13 simos in 6 gallons of water give or take. Since your tank was not fully cycled you almost guaranteed had a huge ammonia spike and killed the simos. thats just too many fish in that small amount of water.

Nitrates won't kill the fish in a matter of a few hours...not Simo's anyway. They're not really delicate.

Brian said that the readings were Ammonia - 0 and Nitrites - 0 and Nitrates - 20 anyway.

I have an 825 gph powerhead in the 40 gallon where I keep my Simos. It's true that they love the current. But 40g to 10g is a pretty big difference.

It's got to be a toxin of some kind since they all died with their mouths wide open. That's the #1 sign of hypoxia. Something caused a low oxygen environment.

could it not be ammonia? i doubt there were alot of nitrates anyways because his tank is not cycled. im sure there is nitrite and nitrate

Yeah, if you go over there, and he still has the fish, check their gills. If their gills are all red, or the fish have black spots on them, it could be ammonia burn. I've just never heard of it happening so fast.

                    • had a2-3 fry do that in a 5.5g with 9 spit size trophs in the tank. tank hadn't been setup that long and it happened overnight. didn't test the water just did a water change and aerated the tank.

                            • The media was the eheim substrat, and the quick start was tetra safe start why???

btw, if your going to ask me a question, try not doing it in a condescending manner thanks.

                              • mark for the record, the simo did NOT HAVE RED GILLS OR SPOTS OR ANY OTHER SIGNS OF AMMONIA OR NITRATE POISONING, GET THAT THROUGH YOUR HEAD!

the tank ran fine with these fsh even before i added the safe start and the media one week earlier.

only after i added the rocks and powerhead, did ANYTHING HAPPEN.

I DID A READING OF THE SAMPLE OF WATER I TOOK AFTER I FOUND THEM ALL DEAD, THE RADING WAS PPSTED FOR YOU TO SEE.

                                I DID WC'S 1X WEEKLY 75%.

SO GET YOUR PANTIES OUT OF A BUNCH AND GET OFF THE TANK NOT BEING CYCLED KICK.

                                good lord.

when they died their body coloring was normal with the only wierd thing was the gaping mouth.
