That's a good point. Higher temps = less O2.

well, i just cleaned the canister and that same smell that i talked about earlier, the smell of rotten eggs and sulfur, aka the smell of the sufer dioxide bubbles i thought might have been the cause came out of the canister filter and i smelt this smell last night after i turned on the ph and it started agitating the sand.
so i guess this is the cause of their untimely demise.
what culd have caused this buildup so quickly, i had an eheim ecco 2234 on their with weekly 75% wc's and i didnt overfeed.
i only had 13 .5"-1.25" simos in their.
i had a 1.5" layer of leslies pool filter sand.
any ideas on what could have caused the major buildup?FRENCH FRY!!!

also, the simos dug little pits/hideouts under every rock all the time, so i would think it would slowly be released from the sand????
this is ridiculous, i have never lost a tank full of healthy fish over night.
any ideas?FRENCH FRY!!!

For what it's worth, I know someone who refuses to use sand in any tank because he swears he lost an entire tank of fish due to that buildup in the sand that you are talking about. Our Fishhouse

I think this really helps move the sand around.
I don't do anything to my sand either....but then again I don't like thick sand beds and go with about 1/2'' for the above reason you mentioned.I ate my fish that died.
