  • Conflicting Instructions - overcrowding a 90.

    Hey -

Used to keep Africans then moved over to reef tanks - moved the tank twice and swore off keeping anything.

Well - man plans and God laughs...I've just set up a 90 and plan to keep Malawi's in it. So many things have changed since I left this part of the hobby -

Here's the one question I can't get a consistent answer to - in an overstocked tank - how many fish should I have (assume haps and peacocks primarily) in a 90gal using a fluval X5 2 baskets of bio i basket carbon and polish filter - 30% water changes weekly?

I've been told from 15 on the low end to 50 on the high end.

Any advice would be appreciated -

In a tank this size and with the filtration and water change regime you have listed, I would go 20-25 mlawai haps like fish.

        Agreed.

Scarecrow: I don't know... But some people without brains do an awful lot of talking... don't they?
Dorothy: Yes, I guess you're right.

Another idea or suggestion.... would be to add some water movers (powerheads) in the bottom of the tank as to get maximum water circulation... It seems like every time I had another water mover into a tank, the fish improve rather dramatically.

            Just an idea...

              +1

I never used a powerhead the first 1 1/2 years of fish keeping.........but now I wouldn't start up a tank without one .
