  • "DC-10" Cichlid

I was at the store and the clerk showed me a purple cichlid. He told me the type and I could not understand the name that he said. He then said people call it a "DC-10" because they were brought here on a DC-10 when they first arrived in America.

Since then, nobody knows what I am talking about when I ask for the DC-10 cichlid.

Can someone help me find the fish / name of the fish?

    Could it be a "VC-10?"

      Try looking here:

Placidochromis milomo is also known as VC-10. And it was named after an old jet that flew between England and Malawi. It was so named for its speed when evading the nets of the collectors. NOT named after the DC-10.

This looks less purple than the one I saw in the store, but the story is close enough that I think you found it. Thank you.

Either way, the cichlid pictured is a real beauty. wouldn't mind having one if I ever started another malawi tank. I haven't seen them in the lfs before.

If you click on the arrow on the right of "Images" under the picture in the link, there are about 8 or 9 more photos you can check out. One might look more like the particular fish you're thinking about. :)
