  • Malawi Blue Dolphin

Hope no one is offended by me not using the technical language for this species. I like to keep thing's simple. Anyway. Who has them? What do you like or dislike about them? I prefer cichlid's myself but, never seen these guy's anywhere. Where can you get them? I think I would like to start a tank with these only. Help a simple guy out.

Sorry don't really know where you can get these guys but I don't think are they too rare so that's not a major problem.

I had some in the pass. Love how they get that fat hump in their head. They remind me a lot of tropheus mixed with a frontosa.
I ate my fish that died.

Just got back from Fish Ranch II. He had plenty of them. Not as impressive in person. Wife wanted the Fahaka Puffer so, got him for her.

Chances are that marauder stated the scientific name to make certain that the two of you were talking about the same fish. Some fish have many different common names (blue dolphin, malawi humphead, etc) making it even more confusing for fish enthusiasts! Blue dolphins are relatively peaceful and don't get pretty until they mature. Juveniles look like drab blue-grey fish. The hump develops on the males moreso than the females from what I remember.

With that said, I noticed that you chose a fahaka. They are beautiful puffers. Be sure to ask plenty of questions - there are many experienced puffer keepers on this site!

Dorothy : How can you talk if you haven't got a brain?
Scarecrow: I don't know... But some people without brains do an awful lot of talking... don't they?
Dorothy: Yes, I guess you're right.

Sorry...I was away for awhile. When they are small they aren't very impressive. Kory from KMX Aquatics has been bringing some to auctions recently. I know he's coming to the HAS auction so there might be a good chance to have some there. It's an impressive fish when they get bigger.

Yeah, you know, the net pictures really popped when I first saw them. But, face to face in the store I was like, yeah, ok, another blue fish. We did'nt bond. It happens.
