  • Why are they doing this?! What are they doing?

The two blue ones! The square off, displaying and fanning their tails alot. Then, they will circle eachother and square off again, every now and then, one will turn over on its side. They were bought as a pair (supposedly male and female). I don't know, anymore if it's male male or male female! :( It's really getting on my nerves because I have been expecting the female to start holding because the male has showed traditional "pre-spawning" behavior!

Also, what kind of fish are these? My friend says they're blue peacocks, I think they're haps. Are we both wrong?

PS! This video was taken on my iphone and it had a lot better quality on the phone than here.

Those are Sciaenochromis fryeri or more commonly known as "Electric Blue Ahli" . The two that are squaring off in the video are both males . They are not mating but are probably actually trying to establish who is the dominant male . You can tell the diffrence between male and female because the female will be a slate grey to almost silver color .

BTW...you are correct..they are Haps (Haplochromines)

Should I sell one? Because one's getting pretty beat up.

Technically they are a pair . . . just not a breeding pair.

If one is getting beaten up, then put him in his own tank where he can get nursed back to health. There is no need to sell him. If you don't have another tank, then maybe you should think about buying one.

Dorothy : How can you talk if you haven't got a brain?
Scarecrow: I don't know... But some people without brains do an awful lot of talking... don't they?
Dorothy: Yes, I guess you're right.

I have this 55g, a 30g planted (with no filter DX ) and a 10g pleco growout tank... There's no where where he could go and my parents would strangle me if I got another tank. lol. I don't have any more space in my room.

Sigh. I'll bring the temp up in the planted and hope he doesn't tear up my amazone sword and stuff...

Most definitely . The male is usually quite a bit bigger than the female in that species .

Don't feel bad, the guy at fish paradise duped me on a few fish too. I picked up 2 of the blue haps along with many other fish. Several of which are dead now.

I have a ton of electric blue ahlis. Anything from a day old fry to fully grown ones. Let me know if you'd like a few fewmales. I'll be happy to sell you some. Depending on size they'll be between $5-$10 but I can make you a deal if you want several of them.

It just pisses me off because he pointed to the tank, FULL OF THE JUVIES, and said "Those are babies of these" and proceded to point to the ones that I now have. What's even worse, about a month after buying them, the "female's" fins became pointed, after having been rounded. Either I have a sex changing fish or my fish had been modified... with sharp objects. Which makes me sad... Anyway... Does anyone have any females I could pick up for cheap?
