  • Eggs - Is there any hope?

    IMAGE_174.jpg

It is difficult to tell from this picture, but about half of the eggs are still clear. Is there any hope of them hatching?

Also, I have about 12 cichlids of various type in the tank. Should I take this driftwood out and put it in a smaller tank with three guppies?

It seems like the parents are right on top of these. Maybe cleaning the eggs or worse eating them.

    Any advice appreciated.

    Thanks.

I would suggest moving them. Red jewels are notorious for becoming extremely aggressive when they start protecting their eggs.

I bought some fungus treatment at the LFS today and he said I was pretty muched screwed at this point. The fungus will quickly spread to the others if in fact it is fungus. He said it is more likely a problem with them not getting properly fertilized.

For giggles, I think I will move the wood to a smaller tank tonight and add some of the drop to see what happens.

if you move them make sure there is like a bubbler right next to the eggs to make sure there is a constant water movement around them..

When I got home to move them, the piece of driftwood was so clean you would never know eggs had been there a few hours before. Maybe the pleco found them. I will be on the lookout for more eggs in the future.

How soon might they try again? Are there any signs I can watch for to be ready to act?
