  • Stress on Momma

i was expecting to strip one of my Chimbas on the 30th but i dont think shes holding anymore....
shes opening her mouth and eating again. man that sucks.
about to 2 days ago i was trying to remove one of my other fishes and didnt move the rocks or anything so it took me awhile to get it out.

did this stress cause her to eat her fry?
    Damn this hobby......

Stress can cause fish to eat their young.

Also, when fry get about 3 weeks I start to see the females taking in food to eat and for the fry.

May want to check closer around the rocks. She might have spit them already.

You might have a baby killer on your hands.

      i got 13 chimbas, 5 peacocks, 2 loaches, 2 yellow labs, 1 red jewel in my 125
my malawi guys are probably the perpetrators.

im setting up my 120 this week. 4'x2'x2'. should i throw my trophs in there or keep them in the 125 and move the malawi's
once the kiriza's get big enough im gonna put them with the chimbas. good combo?
      Damn this hobby......

        You are right on point.

If the female had been holding for close to 30 days then she most likely spit them and they got ate up.

120g is a good size tank.

There has been documentation of Sp. red and sp. black cross breeding.

However, I have seen tanks where sp. red and sp. black did not cross.

On 4 footer, it's generally better to only keep one type of tropheus.

You can always try and just keep an eye on them.

            That's early.

This is the group you got from Tony right?

            How old are they?

If they are around 1 year old, then she ate them eggs.

If you are going to keep then in the 125g then about 30-35 total, even 40 would even work.

If you chose the 120g, then get like 25 total would be better.

At around 1 year they are still young. Most likely the females 1 or 2nd time holding.

Some can hold to term sooner than others but in the end they all learn how.
