  • What to feed?

I have 12 demasoni, and 12 yellow labs in my 55. I got the dems first, and have been feeding them hbh veggie food, along with spirulina pellets. I got the 12 labs yesterday, and read that they are carnivores. I forgot to plan for that, adn am wondering how to feed these fish without giving the dems the malawi bloat.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

I personally have never used HBH Veggie food but I have kept and bred both Demasoni and Yellow Labs . I know that you have read that Demasoni are herbivores but I have always fed them with NLS (New Life Spectrum) and Dainichi without any problems . I have even fed them Tetra Color Bits . Demasoni and Yellow Labs will eat anything that you throw into the tank .

I kept both of these in my last malawi tank on the same foods as Dave without issue.

Which Daiinchi product? Which NLS product? Each of these makes multiple cichlid varieties.

              Thanks

You can feed pretty much any of the Dainichi and NLS . I would suggest Dainichi Color Supreme and/or NLS Cichlid Formula .

I got some Dianichi, HBH Veggie food, (from before), and they don't seem to be eating either one. They just suck it in their mouth, and spit it back out.
They have to be eating something. HELP!!!

Try some New Life Spectrum (NLS) . Are you sure that none of your fish are sick ?

No they don't look sick at all. They just dont seem to be eating when I feed them. I ordered the NLS yesterday from Amazon.com, which brings my total food bill for these picky little farts higher than a cats a**. Hope they will like this fourth food brand. What could they be eating? I've had them a month, and they seem healthy.

Probably some type of bulk food . I am totally suprised by your fish . I have kept Demasoni and Labs in the past and they would eat anything that hit the tank . As a matter of fact.....I had never fed anything that they didn't like .

Fish can be picky. I recently set up a tank with a large buccochromis and a medium sized stigmatochromis. The bucco goes nuts for various sizes of Dainichi, whereas the stigmatochromis prefers the NLS cichlid formula. That stuff is small and sinks, and goes down to the sand on the bottom and it's like watching a vacuum cleaner. Most of the Dainichi floats, and the bucco loves to take it from the surface. Heck, I think he swallows those things whole.

When I got them both a few weeks ago, the stigmatochromis simply wouldn't touch the Dainichi, which is why I feed both brands of food at the same time now.

I received the NLS, and they love it! The Dianichi is bigger, maybe when they grow some. Thanks to all.
