  • Cyps & Trophs/petros?

Would it be ok to put cyps in with trophs and petros? I would think it should be fine, but anyone ever done it with success?

I've yet to keep either, but all the research I've done says that cyps are primarily carnivores and trophs/petros are herbivores. so that may cause some issues with feeding.

I have a few Cyps who escaped netting in with some trophs right now. They completely ignore each other. I feed both NLS 1mm Cichlid formula

wouldn't recommend it on a large scale. success is measured with time and I think with time the group of cyps will just be broken down.

            Mike,

I put 20 cyp's in with my petros and a couple of trophs this past Saturday. Everything is ok so far, let see what happens in the long run.

                Mike,

I kept cyps with my old ilangi group.

Small tropheus is ok. Once they get big and breed tropheus will nip fins.

Tropheus will not kill the cyps and the cyps will even breed but they will never have perfect fins.

Petros is another story. They are like puppy dogs. I have 15 callos in my petro tank and no one messes with them.

Food is non issue, feed NLS.
I ate my fish that died.

                    I've done both.

I had Cyp. "Utinta" in with Tropheus "Pemba" for three months without much of an issue . . . although the cyps didn't color up as much.

I had Cyp. "Kitumba in with a lone Petro trew for a while. Everything was fine at first . . . but as the petro started getting more comfortable, the cyps started jumping out. I got rid of the petro at that point.

The cyps still bred for me (on a much reduced scale) in both situations.

I keep a large group of cyps in my 180 gal petro tank. They've been in there over a year with longola and famulas. They spawn like rabbits and will pick at the petros when they get too close to the cyps when spawning. No problems at all so far. I feed nls and dainichi pellets, plus krill and mysis 3x a week. The cyps get plenty to eat and judging by the breeding activity, are getting enough of the correct foods.
