  • New scape?

I'd like to do a new scape for my 55g. I really loved Front's 180g scape with all those big rocks and i know I can't do that in my 55g. However, I'm not sure if my brichardi would be happy with a scape like that.

If you have any pictures or ideas that are easily accessible and easily pieced together, that would be aboslutely wonderful!

    Thank you!

thank you for liking my tank, your brichardi will love a rock scape. they will breed like rabbits too. You can find smaller rocks and do a similar scape. 4' of tank is a good amount of space to do a good rock scape.

I thought they needed caves. Do you have any small rocks? Or know of where I can get them? I really liked the asymmetry of your tank, it left it for the fish to fill in. I wanted to do that but dont know how.

there are a ton of misconceptions about Frontosas that I feel is my "duty" to clear up. They dont NEED caves. They need hiding places. I make this happen by placing rocks in certain places to break the "line of site" from one end of the tank to the other. I dont know of a rock yard in your area, but I go to Alamo Stone in houston. Make sure that when you buy the rocks, you buy large, medium, small and extra small rocks for depth. I can probably find a day over the weekend to come out and help you if you'd like. I really enjoy scaping tanks. The rocks dont have to be smooth or round either. They can be regular rocks. Whatever YOU like they will be fine in. Fronts do have a tendancy to be "jumpy" and will dart across the tank when spooked so make sure you dont have any obvious sharp points in the tank that they can swim into. Anyway, if you need some help, just ask, i'll be glad to help you pick the rocks out and scape your tank. Peace

Oh, no I meant n. Brichardi. I was told in the research I did that they were cave spawners. I would love help in getting rocks and such. I would like some dark rock to contrast with the light fish and sand. But I dont have much at all to sPend on it.

Ahhhhh. I got mixed up. Brichardi don't need caves either. They will dig out in between the rocks and set up shop. They are fairly territorial and aggressive during spawning. They love NLS Thera A and Dianichi Color Supreme. They breed like every week or so but unless you have a unique or rare variant, the fry aren't worth much. Try Alamo Stone. They have lots of nice rocks

Neolamprologus brichardi will find a spot to spawn - I wouldn't worry about that too much. Having a rock with minimal space beneath it will constitute as a cave.

Scarecrow: I don't know... But some people without brains do an awful lot of talking... don't they?
Dorothy: Yes, I guess you're right.

i was a brichardi breeder for a long time.

They like a good size rock they can hide behind and dig out a cave.

i used mostly texas holey rock when i was a breeder but any good size rocks will work.

like the guys said find something you like and get a few good size pieces.

If those are the same ones I gave you, just make a rock pile and they will spawn. Did you already use all the rock I gave you for something?

Once I cull them down, I'll definately let you know. I really need to get rid of some other fish as well and when I go to college, I'll probably cut my stock in half when I give my set to my neighbor, so I'll keep you in mind. Unfortunately, the female that is protecting them (the mother I'm assuming) is a little parrot faced. These fish came from Freespool and Vance (Screename). The ones I got from Freespool spurred something that made me absolutely adore tanginyikans. they're AMAZING!!!

I used to keep a ton of Brichardi back in the day but I got rid of em when I got my Frontosa colony. I'm thinking about doing a Brichardi, Leleupi and Julidiochromis.....IWAGUMI tank. If I pull it off, its gonna be sick but I gotta get some serious cash together.

That is gonna be SICK!!!! I have about 12 1/4" fry right now and some little bitty dot sized ones. I'm hoping to get my daffodils to spawn but I looked today and I only had males. I wanted some Lelupi and I really want to do a Cyatho tank and a Bentho tank. But that's a very far away dream... Do you have your tank against a wall or is it dividing a room? Just wanted to get an idea of how to place my rocks when I get them.
