I have my actinics to run for 12 hours. And between that 12 hours I run the day-bulbs along with the actnics for about seven hours. This will give actinic only at the beginning and end of your schedule, for a dusk dawn effect. Don't run them all night, treat them like a regular bulb.

      +1.

I use mine for dusk dawn effect also.

If you want all night viewing then go with "moonlights" which are normally cheap blue leds.

Fish need rest too. I have read reports of people keeping their lights on 24/7. I have also tried it in the pass.

But I thought my fish looked geeked out so I stopped.

There are behavioral studies done on fish comparing their active during the day time vs. night time. And there are interesting differences. Personally, my goal when keeping aquariums is to match as closely as I can the natural condition where the fish originated from.

p.s. I can send you the article if you are interested.
