When seeding a new tank you are taking old media from a well established tank and putting it into the new one. This helps ammonia lower alot quicker. I might be missing some details so help me explain.

That's absolutely right . I do this everytime I setup a new tank and I add my fish the same day . I have never had an issue with this process .
just seen my first sign of bad news. one of the trophs has white string hanging from his butt. lights are off and just added my some epsom after i did a 60% water change.
