College fish?

I want a few cichlids for college but I want some that will stay small and active as I am only allowed a 10g tank at my collge of choice.

Any suggestions? I have a few 10g tanks and a 40g canister filter that I'll put on it, so filtration is not a problem. I just want to make a decision now so I can get it together.

Shellys like the Neolamprologus brevis, you can have 2 pairs in your 10 gal.
