  • Peacock Problem

I have a newly maturing red peacock that keeps going after my Otter Point peacock. Both are male and about the same size, 3.5"-4". I have 3 other younger peacock males (2.5") in the tank that appear to get along. Only 3 females. 5m/3fm. Is the aggression of the red due to his maturing and wanting to run the tank? Would putting in more females help neutralize this?

Have many other assorted Cichlids in tank too. Once the Red starts nipping at the OP, then they all start taking turns. I have taken the OP and put him another tank.

Your eventually gonna loose your OP. You need to remove all those males or at least get it down to a few. What size tank do you have? You may just have a serious overcrowding problem. But, Dominance is a big issue with that many males.

Tank is 55g. If i put more females than males will it calm them down? The females are just so plain...

You have more males to females. Everyone want's to be King. This is just my thought's, you have too many males, not enough ladies to go around. And also, a 55gal is kinda tough to establish a home for that many males. Each one likes his own little spot in the tank. That's 5 males, 55 gals of water. That's sectioning the tank off 5 way's. Not possible.

I think the aggression is due to the presence of the females. I would remove all females and just do male only tank. Removing females solve many of my aggression issues.
