Starting a tropheus tank soon and just purchased a eheim 2217 to go with the wet/dry I already have running. What would be the best media to use and how should it be placed inside canister?

Thanks...I'm probably gonna make the final call when I'm at the store but now I have some idea of what I should be looking at...appreciate the input and welcome any more advice...I am pretty much brand new to the hobby, so ignorant to a lot, but I am learning fast thanks to the HFB family...*)Sharif*)

What media to use depends on what you want the filter to do. If you're relying on your wet/dry to do the bulk of the biofiltration and want the Eheim to serve as a mechanical filter, then the pads and floss are a workable idea; you'll just have to clean it more often as the floss clogs with debris.
If you want the Eheim to be a bio-filter then I'd put the coarse pad on bottom and fill the canister with something that has lots of surface area for bacterial colonization, like lava rock, Eheim substrat or even the plastic noodles (can't remember the brand name) with a sponge prefilter over the intake. The prefilter will need to be rinsed frequently (I rinse mine weekly) but the filter will need servicing much less often that in the first example.
MarkWhat are the facts? Again and again and again--what are the facts? Shun wishful thinking, ignore devine revelation, forget what "the stars foretell", avoid opinion, care not what the neighbors think, never mind the unguessable "verdict of history"--what are the facts, and to how many decimal places? You pilot always into an unknown future; facts are your only clue.

I'm just going to throw this out there if you want a great mechanical filter. Also it will make your maintenance much easier. Run your Eheim packed full of media and course pad and them run a ac110 with sponges it'll be very easy to clean take you about two minutes without have to crawl unde the stand.
