  • Chipimbi or Moliros?

I'm thinking about getting some tropheous and right now i'm trying to decided between chipimbi and moliros. I know they look similar but how do they really differ in appearance. Is one easier to keep than the other, behavior differences?

They differ in one way the Chipimbi has a red tail strip. And I notice the Chipimbi have vertical strips more so than the Moliro
On keep them there is no difference between the two. They are both Sp. Red aggression is the same and both are going to breed like rabbits for you

They look exactly the same even when compared side by side.

keeping requirements are also the same. Get 20+ and your set.

I think Trophs.com set up a poll to determine what red Trop. species was everyone's favorite. I believe the Moliro's recieved most votes by far???

I think that poll is a little miss leading.

A lot of people on trophs.com are new to tropheus keeping generally and haven't even kept moliro.

I have own both and have compared them side by side. Literally no difference. Even the pictures in the aqua log looks doctored up when comparing the two.

There are a number of threads on tropheusfanatic by Mark Young.

He reports on the similarities between these two fishes. Collectors can't even tell the difference between them.

well i thought moliros were more black with a horizontal real red mark while chipimbis had an orange red body with vertical hardly noticeable stripes but every time i look them up i get identical pics or almost identical

Have you noticed any difference in personality? Shy, out going, etc?

I have to say, I've never really had two colonies that act totally the same.

I notice a lot of the "character" of a colony is determine by the two prominate males.

With that said, I have not notice any major character difference between the two fishes.
