  • Anybody have an idea of what this could be????

I bought this little guy out of one of the infamous "MIXED PEACOCKS" tanks at a LFS in H-Town.  Can someone help me figure out what it might be or what crossed with what may have derived this.

That's what I thought when I bought him.  He is actually jet black except for he face and fins that you see in the pic.  The flash illuminated the irridesence in his scales.  I'm sure he is a hybrid of some sort but he looks cool when he is showing off because the bottom tip of his anal fin turns orange.

Not a hueseri.  More than likely an Aul. hansbaenschi 'cobue'.  Basically a red shoulder peacock with some reddish ventral fins.  AKA Regal Peacock.

I looked up Aulonocara hansbaenschi on malawi mayhem, and found that they list an Aulonocara spec. "Cobue," but not under hansbaenschi. Then cichlid-forum.com has a listing for A. stuartgranti (Cobue). Nonetheless, each listing that has "Cobue" in its title looks very similar, I'm just confused as to what species it would be.  :?

The nomenclature on this fish has changed many times.  Depending on who you ask, the opinons differ.  There is only one Aulonacara from Cobue~so youve seen the one I think it is.  Very commonly sold peacock.

Well, that settles it then! Thanks.  :)  It really is a beautiful fish, Hanson. Enjoy him!

If these guys are so common....anybody know where to get some more.  The pic really doesn't do him justice.  He is actually jet black except for in his face, dorsal fin and anal fin.  I have pretty low lighting in this tank with black substrate so he looks really cool crusing around.

                      Thanks again all.
