  • Best Bloat treatment to have in hand.

I had an incident with my neon/puffer tank today so i decided to stock up on medicine along with the test kit i will be ordering from pet mountain.

Is this a good medication to have just in case my trophs get sick

or is there a better medication. Also any suggestions on other items i may want to add are greatly appreciated.

I've had to treat what I'm pretty sure was Bloat twice when I added new fish. Metro worked both times. Did lose most of the fish that were already very sick but saved some and everything else. I have a 210g with a mix of trophs and petroes.Ttreated with 18 250mg morning and evening for a week so you have to get a pretty good stock of it. Dissolved the tablets in a bowl of water before pouring in the tank. Others advise massive water changes but I just doubled my 1x week 25% to 2x. I also kept the lights off while treating. I read up on it on trophs.com for general direction but my meathod was a mix since what I saw there varied all over the place. Best price I found was on Amazon.

I think I once read (and may still be a sticky someplace) is to add Metro first for a few days as described, then do W/C and add Clout for secondary infections) To keep silicone from getting too blue do W/C after a day or two of Clout.

Do a search on HFB, it will describe it more accurately?

I use metro for treating for bloat and this is how I go about doing it with great success

Stop feeding, remove carbon, cut lights (it helps calm them down and it relieves some of the stress on the colony) crank the temperature up to 78.

1st day, add metro as indicated (1tsp/150gal.) and salt 1tbsp/10gal.
2nd day: no feeding, don't add anything.
3rd day: 50% water change, add metro and salt
          4th day: nothing
5th day: 50% water change, add metro and salt
          6th day: nothing
7th day: 50% water change, add metro and salt ...by now one should be able to start feeding lightly again

Ditto on what jhenry said about feeding and carbon. Forgot to add that in my perscription and I didn't do salt but would add if I had to do again. He's got a lot more depth with trophs and petros than I do and you'd probably be safest with what he suggests. Like I said, you start reading around on forums and there's a big range of treatment suggestions. What I did worked for me but your the one who will live with the results of what ever you do.
