Am I one of the only ones that's get my water tested at petco??? It's free and get a hard copy of the results....
I started using salt on my 240.... As a new tank though. My peacocks are holding back to back now. But I think it's a lot to do with the new tank too... Hard to say anything about the salt, interesting thread thoughLast edited by tunedis95; 06-15-2011, 09:06 PM.240 and 35 Cichlid tanks

I use API salt. I don't use it anymore besides the first couple times. I don't want to end up with a salt water tank or something. I know I delute the tank each time I do water changes, but still.240 and 35 Cichlid tanks

I used my test kit for the first time yesterday and my ph was @ around 8.0-8.2. I have a bunch of holey rock and do use api salt. I will be reading more on that link fshfrk posted and other sources to see what they have to say about salt. I'll also check what a local guys ph is at. If i dont feel the need for it as a buffer i'll just gradually go back to no salt but i think the salt really just helps the fish's health.

API salt is meant to improve gill function of fish. I was plannning to just use salt as a ph buffer cuz I'm still have problem with my ph but like I said I'm only testing with test strips I'm doing 50% to 75% wc with Houston tap but the ph is still ready low with the strips but I did read into the link fshfrk posted and I don't see a need to use the stuff maybe I should just get a better test kit lol
