Well if you have room under you stand you don't have enough filtration
A 2217 would be great on a 55g tank. I have one if you need one. Remember you can never over filter a tank

In terms of stocking, and if you like the look of having few fish - add like 5 1m/2f trios of different types in there. The bright males will pop out over those drab females. Much nicer tank than going all male imo. All male is like 25 fish showing 50% color. If you have a tank of 7x trios, it would look great, the males showing a full 110% color with both breeding/aggression colors

Estimated flow rate is in the 400s I believe for a loaded canister. So maybe that's what you're seeing? I know mine flows like crazy when it's empty. I use it for water changes.

Mine has all 3 media trays full. Idk it seems as if my 2217 filters more water than it lol. Probably BC of the spray bar...

Faster flow isn't always better. The water needs contact time with the media for the media to work. I would suggest double checking the impeller on the pump. If the impeller is good and the filter is full of media then you should be getting lots of filtration. That thing holds a good bit of media.

No flow rate is over 900gph full of media but clean. Where did you get 400ish from?

                          Sorry, it's in the 600s. I don't know why I was thinking 400s.

if the filter is not flowing correctly there is something wrong and you should address the problem. If you want I'll look at it for you and fix it. It is something simple most likely that you're not seeing. Sorry to say but I can take care of it for you

That would be where I'd start first. It's easy to take off.

I am about to clean my filter actually.
