  • Troph problem again.

So I decided to give tropheous a chance and have had em for a little over 2 monthts.

1st month: 25 trophs, 9 demasonis, 7 textillis, 1 venustus, 2 mbuna, 1 front all in a 55 gallon with fx5, koralia evolution, weekly w/c, nls food = no problem.

3weeks ago: everything the same minus frontosa= all fish eating well but 1 troph with bloat which i loose but doing justin's treatment with clout all make it and are eating well again. That time an ammonia issue no major than .25ppm may have caused it or my unplugged heater.

Yesterday: same but by now i have gotten rid of all the textilis, and venustus as well, so i'm getting ready to do a w/c which are a bit more often than once a week. Before the w/c i feed them and notice all but 1 eating with the crowd. So i go ahead with the w/c to prepare for treatment with clout and during the w/c find another ill looking one. Today i came home and found the 2 ill ones dead.

I didn't check the water bc i was more worried about beginning treatment but with less of a bioload i doubt that.

IS IT POSSIBLE THAT THIS BLOAT WAS MORE THAN LIKELY CAUSED DUE TO AGGRESSION SINCE I TOOK OUT ALL THE ROCKS TO BLEACH THEM LAST TUESDAY OR WEDNESDAY AND WAS BARELY ABOUT TO PUT THEM BACK YESTERDAY WHEN I SPOTTED THE PROBLEM??????????

One of my 2mbunas is very territorial and i'll probably be getting rid of him. My demasonis don't really display much aggression and were in great shape until this week WITH NO ROCKS, the smaller ones had damaged fins.

How many males you got on the colony?

Tank is small with a bunch of fishes dude...

Plus, I don't think you treated them properly...

      What was your treatment method?
I ate my fish that died.

geral, most of them are large fry to juvis nearing adult i would say so i'm not sure on the ratio... i'll be getting rid of those 2mbuna... i know the demasonis are mbunas too but they haven't shown aggression so they'll stay in there for now until i get another tank hopefully soon now that i finally have the funds :)

myjohnson, i think treatment went well but as you said i believe if anything it's the tank size. I was hoping to upgrade soon and found deals just had no cash but thankfully my summer internship finally paid off so i'm now just looking for a big tank :)

i just finished checking the water and and unless clout can really mess with it, i think high nitrate levels may of caused it. yesterday i did a w/c and added clout and today everything was fine, ph @ 7.8 but nitrates were @ 40ppm maybe a bit more.

maybe the less beneficial bacteria due to the rocks i took out to bleach could of caused the higher nitrate level... my fx5 is full of nothing but biomedia
