    Re: African Cichlid question

Back in March I bought a 55gl kit with my bonus from work. Noticed one red zebra was missing most of her fins. Bought a 10gl for her to get better. 12 to 14 days later I see 7 little ones. For now that is it. Hoping to expand in the near future
200 Gallon - Dragon Blood, Red Empress, Compressiceps, Venustus
    55 Gallon - Female peacocks
    40 Gallon - Red Empress/Dragon Blood Juvies
    20 Gallon - ER

Johannis are mbunas and they become more and more aggressive as time passes.  The peacocks stay peaceful unless they're spawning.

        Re: African Cichlid question

I kept a 55 gallon with both in it when I first started out with Cichlids.  Starting buying up all kinds of fish that had cool colors.  As long as you have plenty of rock work in the tank everyone will get along for a good while.  The other thing that you have to be careful of is that they WILL crossbreed.  I had a sunshine female that had really loose morals and I ended up with a 10 gallon tank full of mutts.  And not only would she breed with just about anything....it was like clockwork.  Everyone that says that they will get more agressive with time is correct as well.  The larger mine seemed to get, the meaner they got.  As far as that Auratus, once my male matured...he was just pure evil.  He killed many of my younger Peacocks because they weren't bright enough to stay out of his territory.

Just my two pennies worth as usual.

So you say the peacocks are little tramps? In a way i would like to see what an offspring would look like but then again i dont.

Yes, the peacocks are indeed.  I had intended on having an all male peacock tank but I took a chance on a few tiny ones and ended up with a female.  I didn't take her out because she kept having babies and they were so darn cute.  None of the babies ended up as pretty as the originals.

Yeah, I got my last group in a 40 gallon growing up to see what they look like.  I had 3 females that would pretty much breed with anything in the tank.  I ended up giving two of them away because I had a baby explosion every month or so.  I held one of the babies from an accidental Ruby Red x Sunshine female mix.  I guess he is pretty much what you would call a "Golden Hybrid" or atleast that's what he is turning out like.

I hope mine does fine she has been a little timid being new she has been picked on a little especially by my red fin which I was surprised to see. Everyone has decided to leave the male alone now he is starting to fight back and he trys to protect the female most of the times.

You would be surprised at what Red Fins are capable of.  I had a group of 3 males (accidently sold the females to a friend before I knew the sex..LOL) that would not only pic on each other, but everything else in the tank as well.  I think they were mad because I sold their girlfriends or something.
