I have two Cobalt Blue Zebras. One is very streamlined, slightly smaller with 5 white spots on the anal fin. The other has a big tummy and only one white spot on the anal fin. The smaller one has spent the last two days moving the gravel around just under a large holey rock while the bigger one pretty much stays hidden on the other side of the tank. Is this a 'pair' getting ready to produce fry? I've never had this kind of cichlid so I'm curious.

It could be but with knowing the sex of the pair only way to find out is to see if eggs or even fry come out of it.

True. These fish are mouth brooders.

Scarecrow: I don't know... But some people without brains do an awful lot of talking... don't they?
Dorothy: Yes, I guess you're right.

Cichlids are very territorial, so they could just be staking out their space in the tank. They also tend to 'redecorate', so moving gravel is not uncommon.
