Update on my "perfect filtration"
So the "fry dispensing, self maintaining wet/dry" has been on the back burner for a few months now due to the removal of the female so that the Trophs don't get too spoiled but I found out the other day while fiddling with the dj power strip that one of the fry managed to survive and grow into adulthood so now it looks like it's back into action! Also noticed quite a few small assassin snails too but yeah, My wet/dry has never built up any protein slime on the water surface and this is with WAAAYYY too many fish in WAAAAYY too small of a tank and getting WAAyyyY too much food a day.
So I will say that this IS the perfect solution!

I don't use the sponge block that separates the different chambers... not sure how yours is set up but my return pump are has access to the whole bottom. The mollies can swim throughout the footprint area of the wet/dry so they don't go near the pumps much.
The fry tend to hide against things for security which is why they get pumped into the main tank. If you are running an open intake pump I would at least put a strainer where only fry could get through, anything bigger would just make a mess. )700g Mini-Monster tank
