  • PICS! 20 long, dwarf compressiceps

Hey all! Finally posting pics of the 20 long I've been setting up over the last few months. The tank sits on my dresser, which faces my bed. Still messing with the scape a little and working on the positioning of the circ pumps. The plecos I have are really messy, so the pumps are meant to stir up the substrate a few times a day to help out the filter intake and keep the sand clean.

Substrate: CaribSea cichlid sand (finely crushed coral, aragonite, play sand); pH 8.3
Decor: smooth river rocks and various shells
Circulation: 2x Koralia 425 and 1x Koralia 240, turning on for 30 minutes at a time twice daily
Stock: 4x juvenile altolamprologus compressiceps/calvus dwarf (Sumbu), 7x golden white clouds, 1x L-144, 1x chocolate white-trim BN pleco

The dwarf calvus are still young but with my best guess, I have 1 male almost certainly, and 1 female almost certainly. The other two... not sure. One doesn't ever come out from the rocks and I think he's a sub-dominant male that I'm going to end up taking out, if I can EVER catch him... and one could be either male or female. It hides but at least comes out to eat. I'm aiming to have a pair or a trio in there eventually. Enjoy pics! Sorry they're not better quality. The fish are coloring up nicely with yellow fins and blue lips, but they're still so young. We'll see how they do!

    Three FTS at different times:

One of the maybe-males starting to color up; chocolate white-trim BN pleco:

I see you! One of my maybe-females:

Accomplishments! 3 of 4 comps and both plecos in one shot!

Haha yeah, esp the dwarfs! They're still kinda cute when they're young, in a slightly ugly sort of way.

What are the facts? Again and again and again--what are the facts? Shun wishful thinking, ignore devine revelation, forget what "the stars foretell", avoid opinion, care not what the neighbors think, never mind the unguessable "verdict of history"--what are the facts, and to how many decimal places? You pilot always into an unknown future; facts are your only clue.

Thanks Mike. I'm still worried about that one in the rocks but I'm watching. He still swims out very occasionally, so we'll see what happens.

Beautiful setup. It looks very natural. Did you use any specific type of wood or is that just drift wood? Awesome job!!!

Scarecrow: I don't know... But some people without brains do an awful lot of talking... don't they?
Dorothy: Yes, I guess you're right.
